Chord Theory for Producers

Chord progressions are best understood and represented as sequence of numbers. If you already understand scales then you'll know that the first note of the scale is called the root. We give this root note the number 1. Chord progressions generally aim to resolve and end on note 1. In a lot of groove based music it might not be obvious which chord is note 1 but the melody will often head you in the right direction depending on the experience of your music ear.

This chord progression 1-5-6-4-(1) is used A LOT in pop music. It usually goes round and round and and finally ends on note 1.

Here is a list of other common chord progressions from my YouTube Channel that are very useful for producers to know. Hopefully you'll find them helpful.
Happy creating!
